Serve

Serving provides a way in which we can feel that we belong, where we can grow and get to know people, have fun, and contribute to God’s mission through the CCE community.
Check out the various serving teams below. You can express an interest in getting involved by filling out the form above. If you have any questions please contact Evie.
Tea and Coffee
Would you like to help build relationships and community in CCE? This team is for anyone willing to help with hospitality, both serving and clearing up teas and coffees after a service. This would tend to be once a month.
Stewarding
The stewarding team are responsible for setting up the hall before Sunday Gatherings, welcoming people as they arrive and clearing chairs away after the service. We have trolleys to help those with difficulty carrying chairs. We also play a key role in fire safety and generally helping things run smoothly. Practically, stewards need to arrive around 9.30 and are likely to finish around 1.00pm. Overall, if you have a passion to be outward facing and help draw people into church, come and be a steward!
Co-ordinator
Co-ordinators help set up for Sunday service (e.g., turning on lights, checking in with teams, preparing water and communion). They also welcome new people at the Welcome Point before and after the service, helping them feel at home. And lastly the role also involves being available to assist speakers, hosts, and volunteers during the service (e.g.,
handing out leaflets, troubleshooting any issues). If you enjoy helping others and getting more involved on a Sunday, joining this team could be for you!
Worship
Sound/Visuals
This is great for those who are interested in the more technical aspects of running a Sunday service. We provide live streaming and recording so have an interesting set up that can be really fun to learn how to use. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn. There is also some small employment opportunities via church hires to provide sound and visuals for events.
Students and Young Adults
We currently get together on Sundays straight after the service to share food, catch up with one another and welcome new folk. We also meet for a bible study mid-week and run various one-off activities too. If you’d like to help with making lunches on a Sunday and/or hang out with us we’d love to hear from you.
Foodbank+
We run Foodbank+ in collaboration with Newington Churches Together and Edinburgh City Mission. We offer food to guests who come, getting to know them over the weeks they are receiving help, offering friendship, encouragement and prayer when requested.
Volunteers are welcome to join us: we run on Thursday mornings most weeks of the year. If you’d be interested in volunteering with Foodbank+ then please get in touch!
Kids **
Would you like to join our fabulous team of parents and volunteers and contribute to fostering a warm welcoming, engaging and fun environment for our the children’s groups? There are around 30 children aged 3-10 years old in our community. The groups run for an hour during the service on a Sunday morning and we use age related Christian content and resources.
We currently run three groups for the children. Kids Allowed( Nursery – P2), Bonkers Conquerors (P3 -P4) and Thunderkids (P5-PP7). Each group has a ‘teacher’ and a helper. The teachers prepare and runs the session, whilst the helper is another pair of hands to help run the session. All teachers and helpers are checked through the PVG system.
Youth**
Our youth group called ‘Liquid’ is for all those of secondary school age. On Sundays we meet during the service for games, learning and a reflection. We tend to have anywhere between 10-20 youth who attend these sessions. The leaders use material from a variety of youth programmes to explore bible topics but also help put into practice what living like a follower of Christ means.
We also meet every Tuesday evening during term time in the from 7-9.30pm. This is a popular and energetic evening comprising of food, games a reflection and worship. If you’d like to help run a session on a Sunday or help out on a Tuesday evening, please get in touch!
Prospects **
We are a mixed group that shares with people with learning disabilities about Jesus and the Bible. We meet monthly at CCE to enjoy a meal together. We also have music, drama, craft, prayer and lots of chat! We would welcome any volunteers for our friendly and relaxed meet-ups. Please get in touch if you would be interested.
Toy Library **
Toy Library Play Sessions run fortnightly on Wednesday mornings during term time from 09.30 to 11.30 in The Kings Hall for parents, carers and their children of 0-5yrs of age. The toys, games and equipment are all set out in the main hall, and we provide a warm welcome along with snacks and drinks.
If you are looking for volunteering opportunities, we always appreciate help with setting up the hall fortnightly on Wednesday mornings from 8.45am. During the play sessions help with cleaning toys, chatting to people, prepping snacks and clearing up afterwards. Help with any of these tasks would be really valuable!
Please note**
Due to the new legislation around working with children and vulnerable adults we require everyone to have a PVG check before volunteering with these groups. We support all our volunteers with the PVG process. Kirsty Hook will get in touch with you if you would like to volunteer with children, youth or vulnerable adults.
