What we do
There is so much that we want to see in Edinburgh and beyond. We see a world that has largely lost its anchor points, and a church that has largely lost its focus. We want to play our part in bringing echoes of a world to come to this city, offering hope, healing and restoration.
This section describes some of the things we do, to fulfil this vision of “missional church”.
We gather together on Sunday mornings for worship, prayer, Bible teaching and reflection, and fellowship (often we are closing the church building an hour or so after the ‘formal’ part of the morning has finished, as groups of people wander off to have lunch together!).
Not that we are very formal in anything we do. On any given Sunday you will find children drawing or dancing in the worship, people standing or sitting as they feel moved, modern songs with some occasional ancient hymns or liturgy, some moments of high praise or quiet silence, times of laughter or provocation, space to listen to someone teach from the scriptures or to think how it might apply to our lives.
Our time together starts at 10.30am and we aim to finish at 12.30pm. Although there are Sundays when we do different things, in general you can expect 30-40 minutes of sung worship, some news of what is happening in our community, a sermon of around 30-35 minutes, and some time to reflect, respond, & prayer ministry at the end of the gathering. We tend to celebrate communion (bread and wine) once a month, and baptise adults or dedicate babies several times a year.
All our Sunday gatherings are at the King’s Hall.

At Community Church we’re learning that everyone has something to contribute, no exceptions. We’re learning that God can speak and move through people of all ages, if they find the space and we give them the time. During the worship, the children often gather around a large piece of paper and draw pictures inspired by the worship around them. Often it seems that God is speaking through these images.
Later on in our Sunday Gathering, the children have some special meetings of their own, which generally last for an hour or so:
|Creche||<3||The creche takes place during Sunday Services in the Kings Hall and caters for toddlers up to three years of age. We have a dedicated area in the Hall full of toys and games, as well as helpers every week|
|Thunderkids||3-5||In this group we aim to create an encouraging, informal environment that is inclusive and participatory to allow our children to grow in God while having fun at the same time!|
|Kids Allowed||6-8||Kids Allowed provides a fun and creative environment for youngsters to express themselves and explore their relationships with God.|
|Bonkers Conquerors||9-11||This group provides for the older primary children a place to deepen their understanding of God through bible study, drama, discussion, prayer – with plenty of fun!|
