Christmas Appeal
This year, instead of an offering at our Christmas Service, we have decided to partner with our local Salvation Army in providing Christmas presents to those most needy in our neighbourhoods. This is what Jennifer Gosling from the Salvation Army says:
“We support, on average, 300 local children every year, making sure they receive gifts on Christmas morning. These families are mostly referred by social workers/health visitors etc who are aware of families in financial difficulty. We also do a large number of food parcels too. Our area covers city centre, Liberton, Gilmerton, Leith, Craigmillar and other surrounding areas within roughly a 6-7 mile radius of our church.”
There are 3 ways you could contribute to this:
- Buy something from their Amazon wishlist and select the Salvation Army Gift Registry address, which is an option that is available under ‘delivery addresses’ when you check-out. Please don’t have it delivered to the Church building on East Adam Street as it is not open throughout the week.
- Give a donation to CCE that we would pass on to them, to buy presents. Please use the reference: Christmas Appeal
- Buy a present yourself and leave at the King’s Hall by 29th November. It needs to new and unwrapped (the present is wrapped by the parent(s)/carer, so they know what they are giving to their children).
The deadline for bringing presents to the King’s Hall is Sunday 29th November, and for Amazon wishlist or donation is Friday 4th December.
This is a great opportunity to bring some Christmas cheer to those most needy in the south of Edinburgh, and work with another church part of “Newington Churches Together”. Thanks so much.
